Former University of Kentucky guard Kerr Kriisa was taken into custody in Lexington on July 3 after federal authorities announced charges tied to a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme.
The FBI, in coordination with local law enforcement, booked the 25-year-old Estonian native at the Fayette County Detention Center, where he remains pending extradition to West Virginia.
A Brief Career Overview
His collegiate career began at the University of Arizona from 2020 to 2022, followed by two seasons with the West Virginia Mountaineers and a short spell with the Kentucky Wildcats, where a foot injury in December 2024 cut his playing time short.
After recovering, he transferred to the University of Cincinnati for the 2025-26 season, appearing in 19 games for the Bearcats before turning professional.
Legal Proceedings Underway
The charges stem from alleged financial misconduct during his time at West Virginia, where he played for the Mountaineers from 2022 to 2023. Federal prosecutors say the scheme involved millions of dollars and has prompted his arrest and upcoming extradition.
Team officials confirmed that Kriisa will not participate in the upcoming La Familia campaign at The Basketball Tournament, a decision made prior to his arrest, and his professional future in Estonia now hinges on the outcome of the case.
Legal experts predict that he will appear in a West Virginia court next week, where the details of the alleged fraud will be examined and further legal steps will be determined.
