Oregon Ducks bolster roster with Coastal Carolina catcher Cole Chamberlain ahead of 2027 push

The transfer adds depth after key departures, as the program eyes a return to the College World Series

The Oregon Ducks baseball program is reshaping its roster as the 2027 season approaches, turning to the transfer portal to fill gaps left by recent departures.

Cole Chamberlain, a catcher who spent the previous season with Coastal Carolina, brings a modest but promising résumé, having appeared in 14 games and logged three hits, a double, three RBIs and three runs.

His arrival follows the exit of three key contributors — Naulivou Lauaki Jr., Angel Laya and Burke‑Lee Mabeus — who each moved to SEC schools, and the departure of hitting coach Jack Marder to Texas.

The Ducks have also added five other transfers, while retaining ace pitcher Will Sanford, whose return bolsters a pitching staff that posted a 43‑18 record a year ago.

A new era of depth and pitching

With a 20‑10 mark in Big Ten play and a 43‑18 overall record in 2026, the coaching staff led by Mark Wasikowski believes the new pieces can push the program back to the College World Series in Omaha, a stage it hasn't reached since 1954.
