Rett Johnson, a freshman outfielder for North Carolina State, has been selected to the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, a honor that caps a rapid rise during his debut college season.
A Freshman’s Breakout Season
Johnson batted .381 for the Wolfpack, smashing 10 doubles, a home run and driving in 31 runs. His performance earned him ACC Second Team and All‑Freshman Team accolades, while coaches repeatedly praised his relentless work ethic and gritty approach.
The invitation to the USA Baseball roster was announced shortly after the season concluded, positioning Johnson to wear the stars and stripes in the inaugural World Collegiate Baseball Championship.
The Road Ahead in Taiwan
From July 11 to 15, the U.S. squad will compete in a group stage against Korea, Chinese Taipei and Japan. Matches will be played in Taichung City, and Johnson is slated to make his international debut later this month, marking a pivotal moment for both his personal career and the program’s growing talent pipeline.
