USA Baseball unveiled its 28‑player roster for the first ever World Collegiate Baseball Championship, slated to take place in Taichung City, Taiwan, from July 11 through July 15.
Among the selected athletes, the Florida Gators contribute three standout pitchers: Jackson Barberi, Aidan King and Joshua Whritenour, each of whom earned a spot after a grueling 11‑day evaluation period in North Carolina and Virginia.
Tournament Format and Schedule
The championship will feature a compact schedule of pool play followed by semifinals and medal games, compressing the competition into five intense days of play.
Pool play is scheduled for three consecutive days, after which the top teams will advance to the semifinals on July 14, with the championship final set for July 15.
The United States will open its campaign on July 11 against Korea at 12:30 a.m. Eastern Time, a matchup that promises early fireworks as the Gators' trio takes the mound.
During the training camp, the three Gators combined for 11 innings of one‑run baseball, posting a collective 0.82 ERA, a testament to their dominance on the mound.
King, who became the first underclassman at Florida to earn SEC Pitcher of the Year, logged eight wins, a 3.21 ERA and 97 innings pitched while limiting opponents to a .218 batting average.
Barberi, a right‑hander with a 5‑2 record and a 1.02 WHIP, contributed two saves and a 3.13 ERA across 19 appearances, while Whritenour, the team’s primary closer, recorded seven saves and held hitters to a .223 average.
The Gators’ depth was further underscored by Eric Campbell, whose presence on the roster adds another layer of pitching versatility as the team looks to contend for gold.
With the roster finalized, USA Baseball’s leadership expressed confidence that the blend of experience and fresh talent positions the United States as a strong contender for the inaugural tournament’s top spot.
