The Edmonton Oilers confirmed that defenceman Shakir Mukhamadullin has agreed to a two‑year contract extension carrying an average annual value of $1.75 million, while Spencer Stastney will sign a one‑year deal worth $1.525 million per year. Mukhamadullin’s arrival in Edmonton came after a trade that sent Darnell Nurse to San Jose, a move that brought the Russian‑born blueliner into the Oilers’ system. He posted a personal best of five goals and seven assists last season, complemented by 22 penalty minutes and a career‑high 63 blocked shots.
Stastney, acquired from Nashville on December 12, signed his first contract with the Oilers after posting a goal and eight assists with the Predators. His 66 games played and 10 points (2G, 8A) represented career highs, and he contributed an average ice time of 16:02 per game, including 171:44 on the penalty kill.
Both players bring a blend of experience and upside. Mukhamadullin, a first‑round selection of the New Jersey Devils in 2020, has appeared in 83 NHL games and tallied 22 points over three seasons, while Stastney, a University of Notre Dame graduate, was drafted in the fifth round by Nashville in 2019 and has logged 117 career NHL appearances.
