A Strategic Boost for the Pirates
Seton Hall University has announced the addition of Mihailo Petrovic, a Serbian guard who previously starred at the University of Illinois. The move comes as the Pirates look to fortify their backcourt ahead of the upcoming season.
Petrovic, a native of Prokuplje, brings a blend of international experience and collegiate pedigree. He previously wore the orange and blue of Illinois, where he contributed modestly with 1.6 points, 0.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game during his sophomore campaign.
Despite limited minutes, Petrovic was part of an Illinois squad that reached the Final Four in 2005, a milestone that underscores his potential on the biggest stages. Before arriving in the United States, he honed his craft in the Adriatic League, averaging 14.2 points and 7.3 assists per game, a performance that drew attention from several programs.
The Pirates’ coaching staff believes the new guard will add depth and versatility to a backcourt that has already welcomed several transfers this offseason. Rodney Brown, Kareem Thomas, Roddie Anderson III, Del Jones, Simeon Wilcher and William Gilhooly are among the players set to benefit from Petrovic’s skill set.
Petrovic’s ultimate goal is to translate his practice‑room contributions into a more pronounced role on game night. He hopes to build on the experience he gained while representing Serbia in various international competitions, aiming for a stronger second season with Seton Hall.
Looking Ahead
With the roster reshaped and new talent integrated, Seton Hall is poised to compete more aggressively in the Big East conference. The addition of Petrovic reflects a strategic emphasis on blending seasoned veterans with fresh prospects, a formula the program believes can yield a competitive edge.
The university’s athletic department, in partnership with its sponsors, will continue to monitor the team’s progress throughout the preseason. Fans can expect to see how the new guard fits into the lineup as the Pirates prepare for their first exhibition match.
