Purdue University’s men’s basketball program has added a highly touted piece to its future roster. Four‑star point guard Kevin Savage Jr. announced his commitment to the Boilermakers on Tuesday, choosing West Lafayette over a slate of elite programs that included Georgia, Georgia Tech, UCLA, Florida State and Auburn.
The announcement came during an interview with CBS Sports, where Savage Jr. detailed the factors that led him to his decision. “Purdue feels like the perfect blend of academics and basketball,” he said, citing the university’s strong engineering curriculum and the chance to play under head coach Matt Painter.
Ranked No. 36 nationally and No. 9 among point guards by 247sports, Savage Jr. brings a potent mix of scoring and playmaking. This spring he averaged 20.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game on the Adidas 3SSB circuit, numbers that helped cement his status as one of the top prospects in the 2027 class.
His pledge marks the second commitment in Purdue’s 2027 recruiting class, following five‑star center Isaiah Hill. Together, the two prospects could reshape the Boilermakers’ frontcourt and backcourt dynamics, giving Coach Painter another layer of depth as he looks to maintain the program’s recent surge in the Big Ten.
