He explained that a late‑blooming growth spurt forced him to abandon the diamond and pivot to basketball, a decision that eventually landed him on an NBA roster.
Though he now dominates the hardwood, Wilson never completely left his baseball past behind; he recently took the mound to throw a ceremonial first pitch at a Savannah Bananas game in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
