The Brantford Bulldogs announced this week that Mike Lysyj will join the club as their new Associate Coach, a move that promises to bolster the team’s defensive structure and overall bench depth.
Lysyj arrives after a lengthy coaching journey that began in 2014 at SUNY‑Fredonia, where he first honed his tactical acumen while pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology.
His professional résumé includes stints as an assistant with the Everett Silvertips of the WHL, a role with the Des Moines Buccaneers in the USHL, and a head‑coach appointment with the Corpus Christi IceRays of the NAHL, followed by senior positions at the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and the ECHL’s Iowa Heartlanders.
Beyond the bench, Lysyj brings a player’s perspective from his days with the New Jersey Rockets and South Shore Kings, as well as professional experience with the Peoria Rivermen, Mississippi Surge and Orlando Solar Bears.
Michael Babcock, the Bulldogs’ head coach, praised the hire, stating that Lysyj’s blend of collegiate, junior and pro experience will translate into a more disciplined and adaptable defensive unit.
Fans can expect to see a refreshed approach on the ice, as Lysyj’s emphasis on structured play and player development is slated to shape practice sessions and game strategies throughout the upcoming season.
A Coach With a Proven Track Record
Lysyj’s coaching trajectory reflects a steady climb, marked by responsibilities that grew from graduate assistant roles to associate head coach positions across multiple leagues, underscoring his ability to adapt to varied competitive environments.
His recent engagement with the ECHL’s Iowa Heartlanders for the 2025‑26 season further demonstrates his relevance in contemporary hockey analytics and player preparation.
