Chris Ramirez, the highly touted shortstop who earned WAC Player of the Year honors at Cal Baptist, announced his commitment to the University of Tennessee on July 6, joining the Volunteers program ahead of the upcoming season.
A Strategic Addition for the Vols
During his sophomore campaign, Ramirez batted .389, amassed a school‑record 98 hits, hit seven home runs and stole 21 bases, while also earning WAC Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year. His accolades include being a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Award and a 2025 Freshman of the Year after a .350 rookie season.
Ramirez will replace Manny Marin, who transferred to Arkansas, in the starting lineup, bringing a blend of offensive production and solid defense that coaches say fits the Vols' aggressive style.
The addition is part of a broader influx of talent, with transfers Brody Trosclair, Jake McCoy, Ricky Ojeda and others also pledging to the program, while commits such as Andrew Duncan, Travis Sanders, Wyatt Hanoian, Parker Detmers and Braydon Kersey add depth to the roster.
