A New Era for Fairless Baseball
Craig Whitaker was introduced this week as the new head baseball coach for Fairless Local Schools, stepping into a role that has been vacant since Josh Witting stepped down on June 4.
Whitaker, a 1995 graduate of Perry High School, brings a blend of playing experience and educational insight, having starred at Kent State University before launching a coaching career that spans more than two decades.
Coaching Legacy and Community Roots
His playing pedigree includes a spot on Kent State’s 2000 Mid‑American Conference Championship team, a milestone that underscored his competitive edge and commitment to excellence.
Beyond his playing days, Whitaker has built a reputation for developing student‑athletes both on the diamond and in the classroom, a track record that Athletic Director Zach Michel says aligns perfectly with the district’s goals.
Superintendent Mike Hearn echoed that sentiment, noting Whitaker’s ability to connect youth programs with the varsity level and to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
The district hopes the new leadership will preserve Fairless’ rich athletic tradition while injecting fresh strategies and community engagement that can sustain the program’s success for years to come.
