Pokémon teams up with Japan’s J League for its 30th‑year celebration

Exclusive fan bags, historic collaborations and upcoming game releases mark a milestone year

A milestone partnership

The Pokémon Company has announced that every club in Japan’s J League will be paired with a designated Pokémon as part of a year‑long celebration marking the franchise’s thirtieth anniversary. Beginning this season, supporters who attend a home match can walk away with a limited‑edition bag that bears the club’s crest alongside its mascot Pokémon. A total of one million of these bags will be distributed across the league’s sixty teams, and they are not available for purchase; the only way to obtain one is by being present in the stadium on match day.

The initiative builds on earlier cross‑promotional efforts that have seen Pokémon appear in Korean football activities with FC Seoul and in England through a partnership with the Football Association that produced a set of Futsal trading cards featuring Pikachu, Eevee, Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble. Those cards were handed out to children who took part in the FA’s Youth Futsal Programme in 2019, underscoring the brand’s long‑standing affinity for the sport.

On the gaming front, the latest spin‑off title, Pokémon Poképia, launched on the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year and has been lauded by VGC as the finest Pokémon‑related offshoot to date. Looking further ahead, the next generation of core games, Pokémon Winds and Waves, were revealed in February and are scheduled for release in 2027, promising new adventures that will continue to intertwine the world of Pokémon with popular culture.
