Stu Fritz, the longtime baseball coach at Hope College, has been selected for the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2027, a testament to his enduring impact on the sport.
After three decades at the helm of the Flying Dutchmen, Fritz retired in 2024 as the winningest coach in Hope College history, finishing with a career record of 674‑500‑3 and a winning percentage that places him among the most successful collegiate coaches.
During his tenure the program captured ten Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association titles and earned four appearances in the NCAA Division III tournament, highlighted by a 600‑win milestone reached in 2021 and a dominant 453‑247 record in conference play.
Beyond the numbers, Fritz is remembered for cultivating deep relationships with his players, using baseball as a vehicle to teach life lessons and inspire growth both on and off the field.
His early connection to the ABCA dates back to 1992, when he attended his first conference while pursuing a master's degree at the University of Northern Colorado, a moment that foreshadowed a lifelong involvement with the association.
