A Defensive Upgrade for the Badgers
The University of Wisconsin Badgers women's hockey program announced the commitment of Lauren Johnson, a highly regarded defender, for the upcoming 2026‑27 season. Her addition bolsters a blue‑line unit that aims to maintain its defensive excellence while injecting fresh talent.
A native of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Johnson grew up watching Badgers games from the stands before stepping onto the ice herself. She honed her skills at Edgewood High School before moving on to a prep career that included stints at Culver Academy and the North American Hockey Academy.
Johnson’s collegiate experience includes a season at Union College, where she appeared in 34 games and logged two assists while earning ACHA/Krampade All‑American Scholar honors and a spot on the ECAC Hockey All‑Academic Team. Her academic record underscores a commitment to excellence both in the classroom and on the rink.
Prior to college, she captained the Culver Academy varsity team during the 2022‑23 season, leading the squad to a memorable campaign that capped a two‑year tenure at the North American Hockey Academy. Her leadership on and off the ice has been praised by coaches and teammates alike.
Badgers head coach said the program is excited to welcome a player who combines defensive reliability with a strong work ethic. “Lauren brings a level of poise and intelligence that aligns perfectly with our vision for the program,” the coach remarked.
