Taylor Black Returns to Wolfpack
Taylor Black, a former Florida Gators assistant and 16th‑round MLB draft pick, has rejoined the North Carolina State baseball program as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, a move that signals the Wolfpack’s intent to rebuild on both offensive and defensive fronts.
During his earlier stint at NC State from 2014 to 2017, Black helped guide the team to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, compiling a 110‑70 record while the Wolfpack batted above .300 each season and posted a .973 fielding percentage, statistics that underscore his impact on player development.
Black’s playing background includes a three‑year professional career with the Philadelphia Phillies’ Single‑A affiliate and the independent Evansville Otters, as well as a collegiate career at the University of Kentucky where he started 110 of 111 games and hit .297 with 15 home runs.
Head coach Chris Hart expressed enthusiasm about the return, noting that Black’s blend of analytical recruiting skills and on‑field experience will be instrumental as the program looks to maintain its recent upward trajectory.
