The second round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 European qualifiers is set to bring together 24 national teams, each vying for one of the coveted spots that will lead to the tournament in Qatar later this year.
The teams that have secured their place
Estonia, Latvia, Slovenia and Sweden earned their tickets alongside the reigning champions Germany, while Croatia and Poland returned to the second round after missing the previous edition.
A historic milestone was reached when Portugal clinched its first ever spot in the second round, underscoring the growing competitiveness of European basketball.
The qualified field also includes Bosnia and Herzegovina, Finland, France, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Serbia, Spain, Türkiye and Ukraine, forming eight groups of six teams each.
What comes next
The qualifiers will unfold across three windows in August 2026, November 2026 and February 2027, with each group playing a round‑robin format. The top three teams from every group will advance to the World Cup, which is scheduled to run from August 27 to September 12, 2027 in Qatar.
Eight teams that were eliminated in the first round will move on to the FIBA EuroBasket 2029 pre‑qualifiers, ensuring a continuous pipeline of competition throughout the basketball calendar.
