Herb Liles is stepping down as head boys basketball coach at North Rowan High School after just one season, a move that caps a whirlwind year for the program. The team finished the 2025‑26 campaign with a 15‑10 record, a mark that included two separate winning streaks — five games and eight games — during the latter half of the schedule.
A Quick Rise
The Eagles captured the Yadkin Valley Conference title outright, sharing the honor with North Stanly, and Liles was recognized as Co‑Coach of the Year by the league. The season also produced a standout individual accolade: senior guard Carter Williams earned Player of the Year honors in the conference.
North Rowan added a playoff victory in the 2A division, giving the program its first postseason win in recent memory. Liles, who previously coached at schools in Forsyth County such as Carver, RJ Reynolds and Bishop McGuinness, leaves after a brief but impactful stint that restored excitement to the program.
The departure comes as the school looks to build on the momentum, with the athletic director hopeful that the recent successes will attract continued talent and community support.
