Season Opener Set for August 21
The Hoover Vikings will open the 2026 high school football season on August 21, kicking off a campaign that promises fresh challenges and renewed ambition. They are slated to meet a slate of familiar foes, including Buchtel, Medina, Garfield Heights, Green, Louisville, GlenOak, Canton McKinley, Perry, Lake and Jackson, each game set to test the team’s depth and strategy.
A year ago the Vikings closed the season with a 9‑3 record, a performance that underscored their competitiveness in Division II. They posted shutout victories such as a 30‑0 win over Buchtel and a 42‑17 triumph against Medina, while also delivering a 65‑0 blanking of Akron North. A narrow 21‑20 defeat at the hands of Canton McKinley highlighted the fine margins they navigated.
Playoff Path and Championship Destination
Guided by a strong finish, the club earned a spot in the Division II postseason, competing in Region 7. Their playoff run included a dominant 50‑6 victory over Columbus Northland before a 62‑7 setback against Massillon, illustrating both their potential and the challenges that lie ahead. The state tournament is scheduled to begin on October 30, with the championship games set for December 3‑5 at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, a venue that has become synonymous with Ohio high school football glory.
