As the 2026 college football season draws near, LSU’s tight end room is drawing attention for both its promise and its vulnerabilities. At the center of the conversation is Trey'Dez Green, the Tigers’ most productive pass‑catcher at the position last year.

Green finished the previous campaign with seven receiving touchdowns, a tally that topped the team among tight ends, and his performances during spring drills placed him among the most consistent players on the roster. Head coach Lane Kiffin has repeatedly emphasized that keeping Green on the field is essential; his size, route running and ability to block make him a linchpin for the offense.
Behind Green, the team has added two transfers who could shape the depth chart. Malachi Thomas arrives from Pitt, where he recorded 13 catches for 192 yards and two touchdowns, while Zach Grace, a former Oregon Duck, appeared in all 14 games for the Ducks but did not register a reception.
Both newcomers are still finding their footing in Baton Rouge. Thomas is working to translate his collegiate production to a new system, and Grace is focusing on mastering the playbook and earning the trust of the coaching staff.
The lack of experienced backup options has raised concerns among analysts. With limited reps behind Green, any injury could force the Tigers to rely on untested players in key moments.
The coaching staff is addressing the issue through intensified conditioning and extra meeting time, hoping to keep Green healthy and to accelerate the integration of Thomas and Grace.
