A Promising Defensive Mindset
Eric Winters, a sophomore safety for the Auburn Tigers, is entering his second year with the program with a clear goal of expanding his role on the defensive side of the ball.
During his freshman campaign in 2025 he logged 33 total tackles, highlighted by a season‑high five stops against South Alabama, and he appeared in all 12 games, registering multiple tackles in 11 of them.
The Alabama native, who graduated from Enterprise High School as a four‑star recruit, turned down interest from Georgia, LSU and Texas A&M to wear the orange and blue, a decision that has already paid dividends on the field.
Under the tutelage of defensive coordinator DJ Durkin and safeties coach Tim Banks, Winters is expected to refine his technique and increase his impact, having already recorded a sack and a pass deflection in his rookie year.
Coaches and teammates alike see a player who not only brings solid tackling numbers but also the versatility and work ethic that could make him a cornerstone of the Tigers' defense in the coming seasons.
