Michael Busby has been named interim head coach of the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball program for the upcoming 2026‑27 season, taking the reins ahead of the team's season‑opening matchup at St. Lawrence University on November 10.

Busby's eight‑year tenure with the Bears has seen him progress from assistant to associate coach, playing a central role in recruiting, player development and fundraising efforts that have elevated the program's profile.
Under his guidance, four athletes have earned All‑SUNYAC recognition and two have crossed the 1,000‑point milestone, underscoring his impact on player growth and achievement.
Expressing enthusiasm for the new role, Busby said he is eager to foster student‑athletes' development academically, athletically and personally, while continuing the program's upward trajectory.
Education and Vision
Busby holds a master’s degree in management with a specialization in organizational leadership from SUNY Potsdam, a bachelor’s degree in professional studies from Cazenovia College and an associate’s degree in business administration from Jefferson Community College.
The Bears will open their season on November 10 at St. Lawrence University, marking the first step of Busby's interim leadership.
