Bucknell University’s men’s basketball team is set to return to one of college basketball’s most iconic venues next year, as part of the 2026 Cathedral Classic hosted at The Palestra in Philadelphia.
The two‑day tournament, scheduled for November 27 and 28, 2026, will feature the Bison taking on La Salle on Friday evening and the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday night, with games slated for 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively.
A Century of Basketball at The Palestra
The Palestra, often described as the mecca of college basketball, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, a milestone that has drawn the attention of programs nationwide. Bucknell’s participation adds another chapter to the venue’s storied history.
Head coach John Griffin III, a Philadelphia native and former Bison standout, expressed his excitement about bringing the team back to the arena where he once chased his own dreams. “Playing at The Palestra is a dream for any kid from this city,” Griffin said, noting the opportunity to connect with alumni and fans in the area.
The matchup will mark Bucknell’s 21st appearance at The Palestra, underscoring the program’s longstanding relationship with the venue. While tickets will be released at a later date, the game promises to be a highlight of the early‑season schedule.
The remainder of Bucknell’s 2026‑27 non‑conference slate will be announced in the coming weeks, but the Cathedral Classic is already shaping up to be a marquee event for the Bison and the city of Philadelphia.
