Virginia Tech announced that the 2027 football season will begin with a home game against The Citadel on August 28 at Lane Stadium. The announcement comes as the university finalizes a non‑conference slate that also features a September 4 contest at Liberty and a November 6 road test at Notre Dame.
A historic rivalry revived
The upcoming clash will be the first meeting between the Hokies and The Citadel since the 1953 season, a meeting that historically reflected the schools’ shared military heritage and institutional traditions.
While the full Atlantic Coast Conference schedule remains pending, the school confirmed that the remainder of the 2027 slate will be released in due course, along with kickoff times and ticket information.
In addition to the 2027 opener, Virginia Tech has slated a 2026 season opener against VMI for September 5 at Lane Stadium, set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff, providing an early‑season preview of the program’s momentum.
