Investigation Findings
Fire investigators in Dallas have determined that the blaze that damaged the outfield wall at Willis C. Winters Park was accidental, sparked by fireworks that landed on the ballpark’s synthetic playing surface.
The incident occurred on a Sunday afternoon, when a sudden flare ignited combustible material scattered across the field. Firefighters arrived promptly and managed to extinguish the flames before the fire could spread further, though the scorch marks remained visible on the wall.
Evidence collected at the scene included remnants of two expended bottle rockets, which investigators linked directly to the ignition source. The discovery pointed to an open flame from the fireworks as the catalyst for the fire.
Witnesses and Surveillance
No witnesses reported seeing the fire in its early stages, and the park’s security cameras were oriented away from the outfield, leaving investigators without visual confirmation of the ignition.
Despite the lack of direct footage, the physical evidence and the rapid response by emergency personnel allowed authorities to piece together a clear narrative of how the fire started and progressed.
Fortunately, the incident did not result in any injuries. The park was empty at the time, and no players or spectators were put at risk.
