Maroons Make History in Regional Final
The University of Chicago baseball team secured its first ever Regional championship on Sunday, edging #11 Bridgewater 10-9 in a dramatic finale that capped a perfect 3-0 weekend. The victory not only marked the program’s maiden Regional title but also stretched the Maroons’ unbeaten streak to 19 consecutive games, underscoring their dominance in the latter part of the season.
Offensive fireworks came from several sources. Jack Sharp went 4-for-4 at the plate and crossed home three times, while Luke Weston finished 3-for-5 with a run and four RBIs. Braden Jirovec contributed a multi-hit effort, and both Harrison Belden and Nathan Bae drove in a pair of runs each. The onslaught was complemented by John Butka, who was named the Regional Most Outstanding Player.
Next up, the Maroons will travel to face #6 Salisbury in the Super Regionals next weekend. The matchup pits two of the nation’s top teams against each other as Chicago looks to translate its regional success into a deeper postseason run.
The win also placed the Maroons among an elite group, becoming the first baseball squad in University of Chicago history to reach 30 victories in a single season, a testament to the program’s steady growth under its coaching staff.
