The University of Hawai'i has announced the addition of Swiss forward Aloïs Leyrolles to its men's basketball roster for the upcoming season, a move that underscores the program's expanding global reach.
A Global Talent Joins the Rainbow Warriors
Leyrolles, a 6‑foot‑8 forward originally from Fribourg, Switzerland, brings a résumé that blends European club competition with international duty. After a season with Fribourg Olympic in the Swiss Basketball League, where he posted averages of 6.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game, he is expected to add depth and versatility to the Rainbow Warriors' lineup.
His basketball journey began in the French system with Cholet Basket, where he honed his skills before moving to Fribourg Olympic. He has also competed in the Basketball Champions League qualifiers and the FIBA Europe Cup, experiences that have prepared him for the rigors of Division I play.
Representing Switzerland on the senior national team, Leyrolles recently earned a call‑up for European qualifiers ahead of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup, a testament to his growing influence on the world stage. His participation in the 2022 FIBA U18 European Championship Division B further highlighted his potential as a future leader for his country.
Head coach Eran Ganot expressed enthusiasm about the new recruit, noting that Leyrolles' international background will enrich the team's culture and competitiveness. The addition marks a strategic step as the program seeks to blend local talent with overseas expertise.
