The University of Lynchburg baseball team has cemented its place in Division III lore, capturing its fourth straight NCAA regional championship with an 11-4 victory over Christopher Newport. The win underscores a sustained period of dominance that has placed the program among the most consistent performers in the division.
A seven-run outburst in the seventh inning turned a tight game into a decisive triumph, highlighting the team’s depth and ability to rally under pressure.
Quinn Madden led the offense with three hits, including two doubles, and drove in four runs, while Kyle Flora added three hits and three RBI. Joe Munitz contributed a hit and an RBI, and Ryder Warren delivered a clutch pinch-hit RBI triple that capped the rally.
Starter Nick Mattfield surrendered four runs over five innings, but relief pitcher Trent Judd shut the door with four scoreless innings, earning the win and preserving the lead.
Super Regional Showdown
The team will now meet East Texas Baptist in the Super Regional round, scheduled for Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24. The series promises a fresh set of challenges as Lynchburg looks to extend its historic run.
