Walmart and Soccer Forward Rally Youth in Nashville Ahead of FIFA World Cup

A community soccer festival brought together over 200 children, local clubs, and corporate partners to promote teamwork and physical activity.

Walmart joined forces with Soccer Forward to stage a vibrant soccer festival at the Magness Potter Community Center, drawing more than 200 youngsters from Boys & Girls Clubs across Middle Tennessee.

Celebrating Teamwork and Cultural Unity

The festival coincided with the FIFA World Cup, using the global tournament’s momentum to inspire local participation. Children aged five to twelve rotated through drills and skills stations designed to sharpen both athletic ability and communication.

Daidrian Rayford, Walmart’s senior manager of communication affairs, explained that the initiative seeks to foster teamwork and physical activity, emphasizing how sport can bridge cultural divides.

John Marcellus, resource development director for the Boys & Girls Club of Middle Tennessee, noted the club’s mission to unite diverse cultures through programs that encourage collaboration and mutual respect.

Renee Steff, a Walmart pharmacist based in the area, highlighted research linking regular physical activity to improved mental health and stronger communication skills, underscoring the event’s broader wellness goals.

Walmart contributed a $5,000 grant and supplied new soccer equipment, while Soccer Forward donated the gear directly to the club, ensuring that participants leave with both resources and confidence.

Organizers say the festival is part of an ongoing effort to embed community engagement into corporate social responsibility, with hopes of expanding the model to other neighborhoods throughout the state.
