Garrett Wright, a former Jackson High School standout, is on the cusp of being selected in the 2026 MLB Draft, a prospect that has captured the attention of scouts across the country.
A Path Forged by Talent and Tenacity
After two seasons in the Mid‑American Conference with Bowling Green, Wright transferred to the University of Tennessee, where he quickly became a cornerstone of the Volunteers’ lineup.
Despite a hamate bone fracture that required surgery, he posted a .348 batting average and an OPS of 1.033, leading the team in both categories and earning Freshman of the Year honors in 2024 and Defensive Player of the Year in 2025.
His ability to man multiple positions — ranging from catcher to center field — has only amplified his appeal, giving coaches a flexible weapon in a competitive draft class.
Resilience in the Face of Adversity
Wright’s high school coach, Bill Gamble, describes him as a fierce competitor backed by a close‑knit family that includes his sister Erinn, a former Toledo softball player, and his brother Trey, who also pursued baseball at the collegiate level.
The support extends to his parents, Jennifer and Ron Wright, who have been present at every milestone, providing the stability that has helped him overcome shoulder surgery and other setbacks.
As the draft weekend approaches, Wright is expected to hear his name called, turning a childhood dream into a professional reality.
