The Paichai High School baseball team has lodged an appeal against a six‑month suspension handed down by the Korea Baseball Softball Association after a game in which players led chants that ridiculed the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement. In a show of solidarity, the team’s teachers and even the opposing school, Gwangju Jeil High, have voiced support for the appeal. During a recent visit to Gwangju, the Paichai players paid their respects at the May 18 National Cemetery, offering apologies and laying flowers as a gesture of contrition.
