Weston Port Commits to Michigan Wolverines
Weston Port, a three‑star linebacker from San Juan Hills High School in San Juan Capistrano, California, announced his commitment to the University of Michigan, pledging to join the program in the 2027 class.
Port has spent the past two years on an LDS mission, a period he describes as formative for his discipline and work ethic. He will relocate to Ann Arbor in January 2027 to begin his collegiate career.
Ranked 87.27 overall by the Rivals industry rankings, Port sits 773rd in the 2025 national class, 80th among linebackers and 61st within California. The evaluation highlights his keen play recognition, ability to shed blockers and relentless effort against the run.
Coaches praise his instinctive understanding of zone coverage and his quick movement through the A‑gap, while noting that his hips still need refinement for tighter man‑to‑man coverage. Though not a pure pass‑rusher, Port shows flashes of pressure‑generating ability and uses strong arms and shoulders to disengage from blockers.
Beyond defense, Port also demonstrated competence at tight end in high‑school play, often high‑pointing the ball in contested catches. Michigan’s defensive staff believes his versatility could allow him to contribute meaningful snaps early, especially on inside linebacker duties.
Greg Biggins, a respected analyst who has tracked Port’s development, emphasized the player’s upside and the impact his work ethic could have on the Wolverines’ defense. With his blend of size, athleticism and football IQ, Port is expected to become a key piece of Michigan’s future defensive front.
