A week of growth on the diamond
The City of Dickson Parks and Recreation Department’s annual Summer Baseball and Softball Camp returned last week, gathering 25 enthusiastic campers eager to hone their game. Coaches Rodney O. Parker and Brooklyn Butler spearheaded the sessions, supported by a team of former players and additional coaches who volunteered their time.
Focused on group skill work, the camp emphasized fundamental techniques, teamwork and strategic thinking. Despite warm mornings that tested stamina, the young men showed major improvements in pitching accuracy, batting consistency and fielding agility throughout the week.
The presence of seasoned former players added depth to the instruction. George Holloway, Gage Walters, Caden Schumann, Evan Pevahouse, Seth Creasy, Ty Childers, Cody Douchane and Ethan Roberts each contributed drills and personalized feedback, enriching the learning environment and inspiring the campers to push their limits.
Coach Rodney O. Parker expressed his enjoyment in helping the City of Dickson Parks and Recreation, noting that witnessing the campers’ progress was the most rewarding part of the experience. His sentiment echoed throughout the community, reinforcing the camp’s role as a catalyst for both athletic and personal growth.
As the summer heat begins to wane, the organizers look forward to building on this momentum, planning future sessions that will continue to nurture talent and foster a love of sport among Dickson’s youth.
