This weekend, baseball fans will get a rare glimpse of the sport’s next generation as the MLB Draft and the Futures Game make their primetime debut on NBC and Peacock.
A New Era of Visibility
The draft will unfold over two days, July 11 and 12, spotlighting the most coveted talents from high schools and colleges across the country. The Chicago White Sox hold the first overall selection, a position that could reshape the franchise’s future.
Adding to the excitement, the league announced that teams exceeding the Competitive Balance Tax threshold will forfeit ten picks, a penalty that has already reshaped the draft landscape for clubs such as the Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees.
The centerpiece of the festivities, the All‑Star Futures Game, will be played on Sunday, July 12, live from Philadelphia where the city’s All‑Star celebrations are in full swing. The National League roster features top prospect Jesús Made alongside last year’s No. 1 pick Eli Willits, while the American League side shines with rising stars Kade Anderson, Ryan Sloan, Leo De Vries and Franklin Arias, not to mention other standout names such as Grady Emerson, Roch Cholowsky, Vahn Lackey, Jackson Flora, Jacob Lombard, Eric Booth Jr., Drew Burress, Gio Rojas, Justin Lebron, Tyler Bell and Josue De Paula.
Broadcast partners NBC and Peacock will carry both the draft and the Futures Game, marking the first time these events are streamed live to a national audience. The coverage promises to blend deep analysis with the raw energy of young athletes poised to become the next icons of the game.
