Lithuanian wing Dovydas Buika commits to BYU, adds depth to backcourt

The 19‑year‑old brings international experience and versatility to the Cougars

Dovydas Buika, a 6‑foot‑6 Lithuanian wing, has officially joined the Brigham Young University Cougars, adding a fresh infusion of international talent to the program ahead of the upcoming season.

Versatility and size welcomed

The 19‑year‑old spent the past season with Jonava Hipocredit, appearing in 21 games and averaging 3.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists. He also logged minutes for Žalgiris Kaunas and represented Lithuania at the FIBA U18 EuroBasket tournament last summer, gaining valuable experience on the European stage.

Coach Kevin Young said the newcomer brings a lot to the backcourt, highlighting Buika’s positional size and competitive edge. Associate head coach Tim Fanning echoed the sentiment, noting the player’s versatility and the character fit that aligns with the Cougars’ culture.

With Buika’s addition, the Cougars now have three scholarship spots still open. The staff continues to search for a starting caliber big man to anchor the frontcourt, a need that remains a focal point of the offseason roster building.
