A Dual Triumph on the Ice and in the Classroom
Max Plante, a standout forward for the University of Minnesota Duluth, has once again been recognized on the national stage, earning a spot on the 2025‑26 Academic All‑America at‑large team. This marks the second time this season that Plante has received Academic All‑America honors, underscoring his ability to excel both athletically and academically.
Plante’s academic record is equally impressive, boasting a 3.58 cumulative GPA in Communications. His on‑ice achievements complement this success; he captured the 2026 Hobey Baker Award, was named USA Hockey’s College Player of the Year, and earned USCHO’s Player of the Year honors. Additionally, he was selected to the First Team CCM/AHCA Hockey All‑American roster.
A Legacy in the Making
Within the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, Plante holds the dual titles of Player of the Year and Forward of the Year, a testament to his dominance in the league. He joins an exclusive group of Bulldogs who have earned CSC All‑American status, becoming the fifth in program history.
Previous recipients include Kyle Schmidt in 2011 and Jeff Scissons and Dan Shroyer in 2000, placing Plante among a storied lineage of Minnesota Duluth greats. His consistent performance has not only elevated his personal profile but also reinforced the university’s reputation for producing top‑tier scholar‑athletes.
Coach Dan Dye praised Plante’s dedication, noting that “his work ethic in the gym mirrors his focus in the classroom.” Teammates also highlighted his leadership, with Tanner Laderoute describing Plante as “the ultimate competitor who never settles for anything less than excellence.”
Looking ahead, Plante is expected to enter the professional ranks after graduation, where his blend of skill, intellect, and perseverance should make him a valuable asset to any organization.
