Gotham FC, the two‑time National Women’s Soccer League champion, is set to trade its New Jersey base for a new home in Queens, New York City, beginning in 2028. The relocation marks a strategic shift aimed at bringing world‑class women’s soccer closer to a broader fan base while preserving the club’s competitive edge.
Etihad Park: A Sustainable Stadium for the Future
The club will anchor its permanent operations at Etihad Park, a 25,000‑seat, 100 % privately funded, all‑electric stadium that will also host New York City FC matches. The venue will feature custom locker rooms, exclusive merchandise hubs, and state‑of‑the‑art LED videoboards, including a seven‑story LED gateway called The Cube.
Designed with fans in mind, the stadium will include The Supporters Porch, a 9,000‑square‑foot outdoor gathering space with a dedicated tap bar, while the Five Boroughs Food Hall will showcase culinary offerings from across the city, celebrating the diversity of New York’s neighborhoods.
Etihad Park’s location adjacent to Citi Field and Arthur Ashe Stadium places it just steps from the Mets‑Willets Point transit station, linking the stadium to more than three million additional residents within a 75‑minute commute. This proximity is expected to boost attendance and deepen community engagement.
New Jersey will retain a connection to the club through a brand‑new 27,000‑square‑foot elite training facility in Whippany. The facility is intended to serve as a hub for player development, coaching education, and community programs, ensuring the club’s pulse remains strong in its former home state.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani highlighted the move’s potential to energize local communities and inspire young girls to pursue soccer, underscoring the broader social benefits of the relocation. The mayor emphasized that the new stadium and training complex will create pathways for aspiring athletes and stimulate economic activity in Queens.
The relocation also aligns with the National Women’s Soccer League’s ambition to expand its footprint and visibility. By sharing a venue with New York City FC, Gotham FC not only secures a modern facility but also strengthens the league’s presence in one of the nation’s most influential media markets.
