Sam Walters, a former Alabama Crimson Tide player who was part of the program’s celebrated Final Four squad, has announced his commitment to Troy University for the 2026‑27 season.
A New Chapter Begins
After stints at Michigan and Southern Methodist University, Walters returns to the Southeast, where he contributed 5.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game during his Alabama tenure and helped anchor a historic run to the Final Four.
Troy University enters the new campaign after a 22‑12 season that included a second straight NCAA Tournament appearance, and will open its non‑conference schedule on November 2 against UMass, a matchup that will spotlight Walters’ debut with the Trojans.
Coaches and analysts expect the former Alabama standout to add depth and experience to Troy’s roster as the team looks to build on its recent momentum.
