Montana State taps Kenny Love to bolster coaching staff

Veteran assistant brings playing pedigree and leadership as the Bobcats reshape their bench

Montana State University announced Tuesday that Kenny Love will join the Bobcats staff as an assistant coach for the 2026‑27 season, bringing a blend of playing experience and leadership to the program.

Love spent the last four years at Whitworth University, where he first made his mark as a player before stepping into the head coaching role for the women’s basketball team. Under his guidance the squad posted a series of winning campaigns, and his development under Matt Logie, a longtime mentor in the region, shaped his coaching philosophy.

A fresh direction for the Bobcats

The announcement also highlighted the elevation of Zach Payne and Sam Scholl to associate head coaches. Both arrived at Montana State in the 2023‑24 campaign alongside Logie and helped the Bobcats capture their third straight Big Sky tournament title. The team finished the 2025‑26 season with a 18‑14 overall record and a 12‑6 mark in conference play.

Shamrock Campbell, who previously served as director of basketball operations, was promoted to assistant coach. Campbell’s responsibilities have included travel coordination, practice scheduling and recruiting visits, and his playing career spanned four seasons at Carroll College before a final year at Point Loma Nazarene.

Athletic director Xavier Bishop praised the new additions, saying the staff’s depth and continuity position the program for sustained success. With a core group that includes Logie, Payne, Scholl and Campbell, the Bobcats look to build on recent momentum as they prepare for the upcoming season.
