The Boilermakers’ 2025 season ended in disappointment, leaving the program eager to inject fresh energy into the offensive backfield as it looks ahead to 2026.
A Season That Prompted Change
Coaching staff member Barry Odom and his assistants turned to the transfer portal, securing three veteran backs who bring a blend of size, speed, and proven production.
Purdue also retains two of its own backs from the previous year and welcomes a single high‑school recruit, Izaiah Wright, who will join the program as a promising ball carrier.
A Mix of Experience and Fresh Talent
Antonio Harris, who finished second on the team with 305 rushing yards and two touchdowns, highlighted his breakaway speed against Illinois and Michigan, while Jerrick Gibson, a true freshman from Texas, contributed 377 yards and four scores in 2024.
Fame Ijeboi arrives from Minnesota, where he posted 441 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman, and Travis Terrell Jr. brings elite speed and a knack for returning kicks, giving the room a dynamic edge.
Carter Holsworth, another portal addition, has yet to see game action in his first two years, but the coaching staff believes his skill set could unlock new possibilities in the backfield.
Head coach Barry Odom expressed confidence that the depth and variety of talent will keep the unit fresh throughout the schedule, allowing Purdue to maintain a balanced attack and stay competitive in the Big Ten.
If the offensive line can elevate its performance, the revamped rushing attack has the potential to rank among the top half of the conference, giving the Boilermakers a stronger foundation for the upcoming season.
