Albion Guard Meghan Trewhella Heads to Brazil for Division III Basketball Tour

The senior player will join a USA Sports Tours squad coached by Leo Gomes, competing in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro while engaging in cultural and community activities.

A Brazilian Adventure for Albion’s Rising Star

Albion College senior guard Meghan Trewhella has been selected to play on the Red squad for the USA Division III Women’s Basketball Brazil Tour, a week‑long series of games and cultural events scheduled from August 4 to 13. The tour, organized by USA Sports Tours & Events, will take the team from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro, where they will contest matches against Brazilian clubs and participate in outreach programs with local youth teams.

Trewhella arrives with a strong résumé that includes D3hoops.com First Team All‑Region honors and the MIAA Most Valuable Player award for the 2025‑26 season. She also set a new program scoring record with 541 points, averaging 20.0 points per game, and becomes the first British player to earn first‑team recognition at the Division III level.

Now in its sixteenth year, the Brazil tour continues a tradition of pairing Division III programs with international competition and educational experiences. In addition to the games, the itinerary includes workshops, museum visits and community service activities designed to foster cross‑cultural exchange.

Coached by Leo Gomes and Organized by USA Sports Tours

The Red squad is guided by Leo Gomes, a coach from Drury University, who will lead the team alongside a contingent of players from Chicago and DePauw University. USA Sports Tours & Events, the tour’s host, has coordinated the schedule, which features games in Sao Paulo from August 5‑7 and a final set of matches in Rio de Janeiro on August 9, 10 or 11.

Trewhella expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, stating that representing Albion on the international stage is a dream and that she looks forward to testing her skills against Brazil’s competitive programs while learning from new coaching perspectives.
