Samet Yigitoglu, a 7‑foot‑2 center from Istanbul, has officially joined the Indiana University basketball program after a highly competitive recruitment that attracted interest from a host of programs.
A Towering Presence in Bloomington
Standing at seven feet and two inches, Yigitoglu arrives with a résumé that includes a season in the Atlantic Coast Conference where he posted 10.7 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. He also topped the league in offensive rebounds, pulling down 3.6 per contest, and recorded seven double‑digit scoring and rebounding efforts.
The decision to wear the crimson and white was not taken lightly. After relocating from Istanbul to the United States, the big man described an initial culture shock, but he has since settled into the rhythm of life in Bloomington, appreciating the supportive environment and the chance to play on a big stage.
Yigitoglu will line up alongside guards Markus Burton and forward Aiden Sherrell, a trio that the coaching staff believes can unlock new possibilities on both ends of the floor. He has praised Burton’s speed and the chemistry he already shares with Sherrell, noting that the partnership could reshape the team’s interior dynamics.
Having previously transferred from Southern Methodist University after his stint in Texas, Yigitoglu brings a blend of international experience and ACC‑tested production. As he looks ahead, the Turkish center is focused on translating his past success into contributions that help Indiana contend for postseason honors.
