Bryce Miller, a junior at Ballard High School, has moved beyond the role of a bench player to become the linchpin of the school's multi‑sport teams. His athletic résumé reads like a highlight reel, from a state‑championship basketball squad to a starting quarterback spot on the football field, and now a pivotal role on the baseball diamond.
A Season of Growth
On the mound, Miller boasts a 1.20 ERA, 40 strikeouts and just 15 walks over 41 innings, and he has added a cutter and a sinker to a repertoire that already includes a sharp fastball. At the plate he carries a team‑high .380 average, smacking nine doubles, a triple and a home run while scoring 23 runs, driving in 21 and stealing 12 bases.
The team's overall record stands at 20‑11‑1, with a 10‑6 mark in the Raccoon River Conference, positioning them for a deep run in the state tournament. Potential opponents such as Boone, Clear Lake, Cedar Rapids Xavier or Des Moines Christian promise tough challenges, but Miller's leadership and versatile skill set give Ballard a competitive edge.
