Jamaal Tatum Brings Basketball Camp to Jefferson City
Former Helias Regional Catholic High School standout Jamaal Tatum returned to his hometown of Jefferson City this week to run a youth basketball camp at Capital City High School, partnering with the local Show-Me Shootouts program.
The two‑day camp attracted roughly two dozen children from across the city, who spent their mornings dribbling, shooting and learning defensive fundamentals while also hearing Tatum speak about teamwork, discipline and giving back to the community.
A Legacy On and Off the Court
Tatum, who later committed to play at Southern Illinois University, has long spoken about the importance of mentorship. In a brief interview he said the camp was an opportunity to pass on the lessons he learned growing up in a basketball‑rich environment.
Parents and coaches alike praised the event for blending skill development with life lessons, noting that the youngsters left the gym not only with improved techniques but also with a renewed sense of purpose.
The initiative underscores a growing trend among former collegiate and professional players who leverage their platforms to invest in the next generation, using basketball as a vehicle for broader personal growth.
