Caden Gibbons, a standout outfielder from Penn Cambria High School in Cresson, Pennsylvania, announced his commitment to the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (UPJ) this week, choosing the Mountain Cats over other collegiate programs.
Why Pitt‑Johnstown?
Coach Brent Davison, who has mentored Gibbons since his freshman year, highlighted the athlete’s exceptional athleticism, leadership and relentless work ethic, noting that Gibbons earned first‑team outfield honors in the Altoona Mirror during his junior season.
Gibbons began playing baseball at age five, a hobby that has grown alongside his involvement in church, the gym, fishing and countless evenings spent with his parents, Ben and Angela Gibbons, and his circle of friends.
Excited about the prospect of facing top college competition, Gibbons said he looks forward to testing his skills against the best pitchers in the region, and he plans to major in Physical Therapy as he balances academics with athletics.
The decision reflects not only his athletic ambitions but also his desire to stay close to family and community, a factor that Davison emphasized as central to Gibbons’ outlook.
