Georgia’s football staff received a vote of confidence this week as both offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann agreed to contract extensions that run through Jan. 31, 2029.
Retention of Key Coaches Strengthens Program Vision
The new deals guarantee annual raises that will lift each coordinator’s compensation to $2.4 million by Feb. 1, 2028, reflecting a commitment to stability and growth.
Alongside the financial terms, the agreements introduce language that permits the coaches to discuss name, image and likeness (NIL) opportunities with Bulldogs players, a move that aligns the program with the evolving college sports marketplace.
Bobo, a Broyles Award finalist for the nation’s top assistant, has overseen a resurgence on that side of the ball. In 2025 the offense averaged 32.1 points per game, ranking sixth in the SEC, and surged to 182.1 rushing yards per game, up from 124.4 the previous season.
The unit also produced standout performances from first‑year starter Gunner Stockton, who finished seventh in Heisman Trophy voting, underscoring Bobo’s ability to develop talent quickly.
Schumann, now in his fourth season as defensive coordinator and a constant since Kirby Smart’s inaugural year in 2016, previously shared play‑calling duties with Will Muschamp in 2022. His defense has tightened, contributing to the team’s overall balance.
The extensions signal the university’s intent to retain core leadership as the Bulldogs aim to build on recent successes and maintain competitiveness in the SEC.
