A Strategic Pilgrimage
The Wolfpack’s coaching cadre is set to hit the road this Thursday, kicking off the first live evaluation period of the summer. Justin Gainey, a veteran assistant with a reputation for identifying high‑upside talent, will lead the charge alongside the rest of the staff as they fan out across the country.
Their mission is clear: to watch, assess and ultimately shape the future of the program by securing commitments from the most coveted prospects. The itinerary includes stops at the Nike EYBL, Adidas 3SSB, Puma PRO16 and Under Armour events, each of which gathers some of the nation’s most elite high school players.
These leagues are more than just showcase events; they serve as crucibles where potential recruits are tested against top competition. By attending each circuit, the staff hopes to gain a comprehensive view of skill sets, work ethic and coachability, all of which are critical metrics in building a championship roster.
What’s at Stake
The outcomes of these scouting trips could reverberate through the next recruiting class, influencing not only who signs with NC State but also how the team is constructed around existing talent. A successful haul could accelerate the Wolfpack’s ascent in the ACC and position the program as a perennial contender on the national stage.
