A Fresh Coaching Landscape in Memphis
Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway has made a notable addition to his basketball program by appointing Ethan Hunt as the new director of scouting, a move that completes a six‑player overhaul of his staff for the upcoming 2026‑27 season.
Hunt arrives after a season as a graduate assistant under Kim Mulkey at LSU, where he helped the program secure recent successes and honed his recruiting instincts.
Before his time at LSU, Hunt served as a basketball operations intern with the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks, gaining hands‑on experience in player development, analytics and day‑to‑day team management.
A graduate of Morehouse College, Hunt also spent a year as the head student manager for the Maroon Tigers, a role that deepened his understanding of collegiate basketball operations and strengthened his organizational skill set.
The hiring marks the sixth new face on Hardaway’s staff, joining recent appointments such as Tony Madlock, Sean Mock, Trevor DeLoach, Steve Wright, Phil Baier and Gabriel Harris, each bringing a distinct blend of playing experience, coaching acumen and front‑office expertise.
Together, the incoming assistants are expected to reinforce recruiting pipelines, elevate player development and expand the Tigers’ scouting reach across the nation, positioning Memphis for a competitive edge in the coming season.
