Uniqlo Opens Permanent Community Hub in Altadena to Support Wildfire Recovery

The new facility blends soccer fields and a learning center, offering free year‑round programs for families rebuilding after the Los Angeles fires.

Uniqlo has inaugurated its first permanent community hub in the United States, located in Altadena, California, as part of a broader effort to aid families still recovering from the recent Los Angeles wildfires.

A Multi‑Purpose Space for Soccer and Learning

The hub, situated on the grounds of St. Elizabeth Parish School, combines two turf soccer fields with a repurposed shipping‑container classroom. The space offers free, year‑round programming that includes soccer leagues, mentorship, homework assistance, financial literacy workshops and digital‑skills training.

Street Soccer USA, the nonprofit partner, projects that the facility will serve roughly 1,000 young people during its inaugural year. Success will be measured by how consistently children and families use the space, rather than by any single metric.

The partnership between Uniqlo and Street Soccer USA dates back to 2013, when Uniqlo became the organization’s official apparel sponsor. Since then the retailer has supported the group through clothing donations, volunteer initiatives and community events.

Fast Retailing, Uniqlo’s parent company, has pledged up to $2 million in funding and clothing to help rebuild communities affected by the wildfires. The Altadena hub is the first tangible outcome of that commitment.

Fuminori Adachi, CEO of Uniqlo USA, said the permanent location is intended to give the community a stable place to rebuild routines and feel supported. "Our priority is ensuring this park succeeds and truly serves the people who need it," he explained.

Altadena was chosen because of its strong community ties and the school’s role as a neighborhood gathering place. Uniqlo plans to study how the hub is used over time before considering similar sites elsewhere.
