Anderson University announced on Monday that Ben Thompson has been appointed as the new head coach of the men’s basketball program, marking the start of a fresh chapter for the Trojans.
A New Era for Anderson Basketball
Thompson arrives with nearly twenty years of collegiate coaching experience across Division I, II and III, having guided programs at SUNY Canton, Emory & Henry University, Lincoln Memorial University, Virginia Tech, UNC Greensboro and Virginia Military Institute.
At SUNY Canton he engineered an undefeated ACAA conference schedule, captured the program’s first-ever conference championship and set new records for fan attendance, team GPA and fundraising. His tenure at Emory & Henry featured the largest single‑season turnaround in school history, with the team climbing into the national top ten in scoring and assists per game.
Beyond the X’s and O’s, Thompson has proven himself as a fundraiser, raising more than $1.7 million at High Point University, and he remains an active member of Midway Baptist Church, where he volunteers his time and resources to local outreach programs.
A formal press conference will be held on May 18 at 3 p.m. in the Trojan Fieldhouse, where athletic director Dr. Evans Whitaker and university president Dr. Bert Epting will introduce Thompson to the campus community and outline the vision for the program moving forward.
University leaders expressed confidence that Thompson’s blend of recruiting acumen, player development and community engagement will restore the program’s competitive edge and academic excellence. The administration looks forward to building on the school’s recent momentum and to seeing the Trojans thrive on and off the court.
