Buckeye Legends Dominate EA Sports College Football Ratings
Electronic Arts entered the college football arena in August 1993 with the release of Bill Walsh College Football, marking the start of a two‑decade‑long partnership that would see the franchise expand across six console generations.
In the early titles, EA listed only jersey numbers and rudimentary ratings for Ohio State participants, but as the series evolved the roster grew to include more than 650 Buckeye individuals with recorded scores.
Among the quarterbacks, four have broken the 90‑point barrier: Troy Smith, Terrelle Pryor, Braxton Miller and Julian Sayin, with Miller’s 96 overall rating in the 2014 edition standing as the highest ever assigned to a Buckeye signal‑caller.
Running backs have also shone, as Beanie Wells earned a 96 rating in the 2009 game, while eight other halfbacks have reached the 90‑point threshold, underscoring the program’s depth at the position.
Wide receivers have been especially prolific; twelve different Buckeyes have posted 90‑plus overall scores, a record for any Ohio State position group, highlighted by Jeremiah Smith’s 99 rating in the latest release.
Tight ends have contributed as well, with six players earning 90‑plus marks, the top of which belongs to John Lumpkin, whose 94 rating remains the highest for a Buckeye tight end in the franchise.
On the line, Orlando Pace tops the chart among offensive tackles with a perfect 99 rating, while nine guards have reached the 90‑point mark, anchored by Luke Montgomery and Austin Siereveld in this year’s edition.
These superlatives reflect not only individual brilliance but also the consistent talent pipeline that has kept Ohio State at the forefront of EA’s virtual gridiron, a legacy that continues to inspire both fans and developers alike.
